AI CAD files you can keep editing.
For a bracket, enclosure, or adapter, ask what you can change after generation. A printable mesh, an editable solid, and a native parametric model support different kinds of work.
Choose by the work you need to do
Evaluate Luphra for conversational part design with downloads and eligible print ordering; Zoo for a CAD workspace with sketch, code, and chat editing; CADAM for OpenSCAD parameters; and Womp for visual shape modeling. Test the exact edit and file format you need before committing to a workflow.

01 / Define the interfaces
Start with a sketch or photos, known dimensions in millimetres, and the surfaces that must connect. For a bracket, measure hole spacing. For an enclosure, measure the internal clearance. For an adapter, measure both interfaces. Mark estimates instead of treating them as measured facts.
02 / Generate and make one revision
Ask for a first design, inspect it from all sides, and request a specific change while preserving the mating geometry. In Luphra this happens in the conversation. Record time to a usable model, corrections, and export time separately. We have not run a controlled speed benchmark across these tools.
03 / Reopen the actual download
Download STEP when available and open it in your target CAD application. Check that you can perform the intended direct edit. Save a copy, reopen it, and measure again. STL contains triangles; it can be modified with mesh tools, but does not carry the sketches and constraints of a native CAD project.
04 / Validate the physical prototype
Check dimensions, clearance, material, and manufacturing limits before production. Luphra can quote eligible parts or provide available files for your own supplier. Test the first physical part against the real assembly. A successful export or geometry check does not certify strength, tolerance, or fit.
Try the same brief
These are example requests and review steps, not completed tests or verified manufacturing results.
Bracket: preserve hole spacing
Design a non-load-bearing positioning bracket from my sketch. Use a 60 × 40 mm base, a 30 mm upright, and 4 mm thickness. Place two 5 mm through-holes 40 mm apart on the base centreline. Then increase the upright height to 35 mm without changing the base or hole spacing.
Measure the hole centres and thickness in the exported file, then test placement on the actual assembly.
Enclosure: preserve internal clearance
Make an open prototype enclosure with 90 × 60 × 25 mm of internal space and 3 mm walls. Use my photo to understand the board layout. Ask for connector positions. Then increase the internal length by 5 mm while keeping the wall thickness fixed.
Verify the usable internal space after the revision; external dimensions alone do not prove the board fits.
Adapter: preserve both interfaces
Create a non-load-bearing adapter plate for two measured mounting patterns. The plate is 70 × 50 × 5 mm. I will attach a dimensioned sketch defining hole diameters and centre positions from one datum. Ask for any missing interface measurements. Then change only the outside corner radius.
Confirm both patterns from the same datum after export. Do not infer critical hole positions from photo perspective.
Questions before you choose
- Can I edit AI-generated CAD after downloading it?
- Yes, when the output format supports the edit you need. STEP supports solid geometry in compatible CAD applications; native projects or CAD source preserve different kinds of parameters and history. Luphra shows the exports available for each model.
- Is STL an editable CAD file?
- STL is a triangle mesh. Mesh editors can change it, but it does not contain the original CAD sketches, constraints, or feature history. Choose the format according to your next design step.
- Which tool is fastest for a mechanical part?
- There is no controlled timing comparison on this page. Use the same measured brief and revision, then record time to a usable exported model. Generation time alone leaves out correction and verification work.
